CHEROKEE COUNTY, GA — In a historic recognition of its unique mission and impact, the Cherokee County 911 Foundation has been honored as the first public safety nonprofit organization in Georgia solely dedicated to 911 operations. In celebration of this distinction, the Georgia House of Representatives and the Cherokee County Board of Commissioners officially proclaimed April 14, 2025, as Cherokee County 911 Foundation Day.
On Tuesday, April 15, 2025, during a work session of the Cherokee County Board of Commissioners, State Representatives Charlice Byrd (District 20) and Jordan Ridley (District 22) brought forth a proclamation acknowledging the Foundation's vital role. Representative Byrd personally presented the proclamation to Cherokee County 911 Foundation President Lori Flink and attending board members.
“Behind every emergency call is a voice that answers, a system that responds, and a mission that saves lives. At the heart of Cherokee’s E 9-1-1 is the 911 Foundation supporting and advocating for them — it’s the Foundation’s mission,” said Representative Byrd.
Chairman Harry Johnston, alongside fellow commissioners, also presented a county proclamation to Flink, reaffirming the Foundation’s significance to the community.
“We are humbled and thankful for the recognition by the Cherokee County Commissioners and Representative Charlice Byrd of the House of Representatives,” said Foundation President Lori Flink. “I have the pleasure of working with the most amazing board members, each bringing unique talents to our mission. As the first public safety foundation in Georgia solely focused on E 9-1-1, we are honored to support, advocate for, and advance the incredible employees of Cherokee County E 9-1-1, especially as we celebrate our first year.”
Founded on April 14, 2024, the Cherokee County 911 Foundation is a 501c3 nonprofit organization committed to supporting and championing the work of Cherokee County E 9-1-1. In its inaugural year, the Foundation has already made significant strides in enhancing operations and staff support.
“I am grateful to the Foundation board members for their commitment to enhancing Cherokee County E 9-1-1,” said Shane Bonebrake, Director of Cherokee County E 9-1-1. “In just one year, the Foundation has made an incredible impact on our staff and operations. We look forward to continuing this strong partnership as we strive to be the best 911 center in Georgia.”
